Kiva gave birth to her first puppy, Dylan, at
19.23 on Monday 16th August followed by
Florence, the lightest of the litter at 20.00.
Sister Ermintrude was next to arrive at 20.24
with Dougal arriving some quarter of an hour
later at 20.41 - last to join the world was
another boy, Zebedee, at 21.12.
At 384 Dylan was
a good average weight for the breed, but the
others were lighter than average.
At
the time of writing (Thursday 19th) all 5
puppies are thriving and gaining weight. A
visit to the vets yesterday provided reassurance
that though small the 2 babies of the litter
were healthy**. Kiva, who had a slight
temperature, was prescribed a course of
antibiotics and today is a lot brighter - being
the perfect mum.

Sadly this was not to be as first Dougal and
then Ermintrude slipped away - neither of them
had been able to feed from Kiva for some reason
and despite hourly hand feeding of them they
faded away.
