In the early summer of 1998 I stumbled across a picture of a Finnish Lapphund in a dog breed magazine. I immediately fell in love with the ‘look’ and resolved to find out what it’s like to actually live with one.

Dex with Echo & Pascha 1998

I telephoned the Finnish Lapphund Club of Great Britain and spoke to Toni Jackson who was then Club Secretary.

She kindly invited me and my family to visit and meet Echo (Sulyka Mischa at Elbereth).

We were in for a double treat, for when we got there we found that Toni had arranged for Pascha (E. Runo in Bernavia) to be there also (Echo’s four month old son).

We had lots of questions answered and without doubt realised that we had met the perfect breed for our family.

I immediately put my name down for a puppy from Jack & Pearl Chetwynd (Curdeleon) who had a bitch in whelp. This was fortunate timing for me as Lapphund litters are very thin on the ground and prospective owners frequently have to wait upwards of six months for a puppy.
On July 13th 1998 ‘Smuu’ was born and we couldn’t have been more excited.
